What is TMS

A small coil is placed gently against your scalp, delivering rapid magnetic pulses that stimulate specific areas of your brain responsible for regulating the condition you struggle with.

This non-invasive treatment can help the brain to adjust the targeted regions, promoting more balanced brain activity. This includes helping certain regions to:

  • wake up (for depression)

  • reset (for OCD), or

  • calm down (for anxiety)

By addressing the neurological basis of the mental health condition being treated, TMS offers a path to lasting relief and healing.

Treatable Conditions

There are a wide range of mental health conditions currently being treated with TMS.

Benefits of TMS

Not a Medication

Unlike all medications used to treat mental health conditions, TMS has no side effects.

Lasting Results

The effects don't fade after a few days or weeks. Many experience relief and healing for years.

Proven

TMS is not experimental. Millions of FDA approved treatments have been administered.

  • How do TMS treatments work?
Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) relies on the Faraday principle. You apply a specific and targeted magnetic field to select parts of the brain from the outside, and the brain internally converts that magnetic field into a current; providing the brain with added energy to do important things like reconnect neurons. One important consequence of this targeted stimulation is increased brain connectivity in and among core brain networks. A breakdown in network connectivity is a serious barrier to wellness. A common brain network central to many treatments is the Executive Network. Many treatments involve stimulations to the Dorsolateral Prefrontal Cortex, the Executive Networks primary hub.
  • What kind of mental illness can TMS treat?
TMS can be used to treat a variety of mental wellness challenges. Some of these include depression (or MDD), anxiety, insomnia, OCD, ADHD, PTSD, ASD, postpartum depression, Bipolar, panic disorders, and suicide ideation.
  • What are TMS treatments like?
With no side-effects, no medications, and healing that lasts it’s an amazing solution for those who benefit! While some patients experience discomfort during treatment, many simply describe it as a unique sensation. Sessions are usually 4 - 10 minutes in length. Some patients need as few as 9 sessions, while others require 30+. Happily, the majority of patients who receive treatments benefit!
  • Is TMS safe?
Yes, completely. There are no persisting side effects or impairments. TMS has been around for a very long time, with millions of administered treatments. New technology and new protocols have recently made it even more effective, but the treatment itself is time-tested and proven to be completely safe.
  • Is TMS always effective?
No. However, the majority of recorded and tracked patients who receive TMS treatments experience measurable relief.
  • Is anyone precluded from receiving TMS?
Anyone who has had metal placed in the head or brain is not a candidate for TMS. Other factors should also be taken into account when considering whether a patient is a good candidate for TMS. For example, caution should taken when administering certain kinds of TMS to patients who have history of seizures or certain types of bi-polar.
  • How long before the benefits of TMS treatments are noticable?
Most patients begin to feel the difference within just a few days! But for some, it can take a few weeks. There’s a lot of factors and everyones different.
  • Why is using TMS Centers so much better?
Helping providers deliver modern TMS is all we do! We specialize to ensure the support providers receive is exceptional. You’ll notice the difference the minute you come to see us for a quick tour. We’re passionate about elevating mental wellness!
  • Why are there no fees when treating suicidal thoughts?
At TMS Centers, no one fights alone. Suicidal ideation is the most serious mental wellness condition anyone can face. When struggling with other wellness conditions, you may win some battles and lose others, but you’re always free to fight for wellness again the next day. Suicidal ideation is uniquely difficult and serious because losing just a single fight against this condition is devastating. One loss is too many. This is why we allow collaborating providers to use our facilities, equipment, services, and staff free of charge when treating suicidal thoughts. No barriers. Just healing.
  • Are TMS treatments available to children and teens?
Our specific equipment and trained staff make it easier for you as the provider to treat younger ages. Generally children 8+ are considered good candidates. Some exceptions may apply. You as the provider will ultimately need to determine if a patient should or should not receive TMS.
  • Are TMS treatments FDA Approved?
Yes. Using TMS to treat depression (MDD) has been FDA approved and rigorously tested for over 10 years. Excitingly, many new treatment protocols for additional mental health conditions have been tested and FDA approved in the last several years.
  • Is this covered by insurance?
While TMS can be covered by insurance in very specific situations, that is not the case when providers use TMS Centers. We provide cash only services. Treatment administered at TMS Centers should NOT be submitted to insurance for reimbursement.
  • What brand is your TMS equipment?
We use equipment from several top manufactures. The parent company for our standard TMS machines is Soterix. We never use NeuroStar or Brainsway TMS equipment.
